Tetrahedron Park

I joined Ryan from the Tetrahedron Outdoors club and two BC Parks Rangers for a three day trip into Tetrahedron Provincial Park at eh end of March.   Our mission was to redo the trail markers on some of the winter routes and do a general check up of the Park.

We hiked (two on shoe shoes, two on skis) into Bachelor Cabin where we positioned ourselves for two nights before heading off onto the trail networks.

Vancouver Cycle Loop Series - Route #1

This is the a series of posts each of which will describe cycle route starting and ending at my front door.

Steveston Loop - 52 km

Traffic free cycling - 95%

Left home 0900 hrs.  Returned 1300 hrs

This is an excellent ride that starts just west of Granville Island and follows the Arbutus multi-use corridor (ex-rail line) to the Arthur Laing bridge which is crossed into Richmond.  The bridge and the next bit to the No. 2 road bridge is not great cycling due to the steady traffic but it is all on a dedicated cycle lane.  Once over the second bridge you just pop down onto the dyke and follow this all the way to the mouth of the Fraser River and then south to the community of Steveston.

Retrace route home which happens to pass by the great Imperial Hobbies shop (a must stop for me)

Lovely Arbutus Corridor

It is June

Float plan lifting off on the Fraser River

Richmond dyke trail

A heavily loaded fishing boat returning to Steveston

False Creek and the tip of Granville Island - nearly home

Montague Paratrooper Mountain Bike Transformation (Part 5 - more mods)

Still enjoying my Montague bike and it has evolved into a great city bike.  Over the past year I made a few more modifications some new and some repurposed from other bikes of ours....

Titanium U-type solid lock mount takes up the only bottle mount points so I picked up velco strap bottle holder.  Added fenders too.

Due to handlebar bag and crowded bars I added a little stub to the right fork which allowed me to install a LED headlight.

LED tail light is rechargeable (like the headlight) and attaches to the seat post.

Reprocessed an unused wireless speedometer from my wife's Bike Friday.  Fresh batteries and settings - good to go.

MEC Randonneur handlebar bag clip in mount moved over from my Bike Friday.  This is a great bag with enough capacity to carry snacks, light jacket, wallet, phone, etc. and easily pops off and converts to a should bag.

Bag not usually this full!
Mirror from my old road bike.

Garibaldi Park Overnighter

August 16, 2019

With a good stretch of weather and nothing scheduled last week I did a quick lightweight overnight hike to Helm Lake in Garibaldi Park.  got an early start and was on the trail by 0645 hrs.  Hiked up the incline pasted the barrier to Taylor Meadows campground where I had a brief rest in the shelter before pushing on to the Helm Lake campground arriving around 1330 hrs.  Only about five other tents there so as very quiet night.

Up early the next morning for the walk back via Garibaldi Lake.
